Religion:
Most of the villagers worship one of three gods; Tymora, Waukeen, or Lathander. They are the only ones with shrines already constructed in the village and with any form of regular visitation by clergy. There are worshippers of most of the other gods traditionally worshipped by Sembians, however, and clerics of these gods come by perhaps two or three times a year.
Militia and City Guard:
The military force for the town is composed almost exclusively of militia at the moment. While there used to be a standing armed force to supplement that, they were among the first to be targetted by the plague that swept through the town--one of the clues that gave away the fact that it wasn't a mundane sickness. The current town constable, Brock lvardson, was elected from among the wealthier militia members to help keep things orderly and currently takes time off from his duties at his farm along with some of the militia to staff the jail.
Up to this point, the nobles haven't handled any of the provisioning of that small force or the appointing of any officials, so you don't actually know how it was done when Lord Sarent was still living.
One of the only significant passes through the Thunder Peaks into Sembia is in the middle of Shadow's Edge's northwestern border.
Governing Council
The village is governed, as most of Sembia, by a council composed primarily of the more affluent members of the village (in comparison to their neighbors). Or it was anyway. In the wake of the plagues, nearly half of the council is now comprised of individuals who merely held up well under the difficult times the village has recently passed through.
In fact, at this point, the council is actually split to the point where your group has noticed the division. Mayor Erevan Phaastos, a merchant elected to the position, leads the faction of the wealthy Sembian traditionalists and an elderly farmer who set up a hospital of sorts for plague victims named Garret is the nominal leader of the new members of the council.
Most of the council, on both sides, is composed of middle aged men, though younger and older are known among both factions.
